Verónica Fuerte – Illustration for Print
Small, smart, a team of three – that’s HeyStudio from Barcelona. HeyStudio focuses on illustration and graphic design for print media. Their illustration projects are all about presenting complex contents in an easily readable and understandable way. The Nokia Annual Report, thus, includes individual stories told by illustrations: the origin of the company, corporate values, how mobile phones work … little narrative pieces in each and every picture, translated into legible visual pieces of information that convey ideas and background information.
Illustrative story-telling also uses maps, for example, the HeyStudio Map of Spain. The details of the illustrations are particularly charming: They are little narrations – about tourism hotspots, lifestyles, people and regions, present street views worth seeing and leisure time options, landscapes and the culture of the country. This information can only be mapped, however, after an extensive research via satellite photography, pictures from reportages and street views. The finds of the research thus become part of picture story, little visual discovery tours that are much more than just entertainment.
»El Pais Semanal« is the weekly supplement of the Spanish daily »El Pais«, dedicated to current issues. Picture spreads about »selfies«, mobile phones, leisure time or eroticism show people in different situations. And although in the illustrations icons represent the persons in questions, the situations are easy to capture. Each sequence tells a story. The HeyStudio trademark carries on into Facebook: @every_hey presents the illustration of the day, every day a new pic from the HeyStudio archive. Click, smile, and marvel – at the imaginative design of the icon people. And guess, who is meant.
