Thilo von Debschitz

Thilo von Debschitz (*1966) heads the design agency Q located in Wiesbaden, Germany. Q has received multiple national and international awards, and its list of clients include Ensemble Musikfabrik, Hessisches Staatsballett, Rheingau Musik Festival and GarDomo. After completing his degree in communication design, Thilo von Debschitz initially worked as an employee, making his mistakes at the expense of others, before deciding to become independent and founding Q in 1997. His own rather complicated last name led him to choose a single letter as the name for his agency. Ever since, he has been claiming that the name was inspired by James Bond's creative gadget assistant. In addition to his many professional and personal obligations, he also devotes time to his own projects, which have been published as hard-cover books. One such project is the monograph Verkehrte Welt – Topsy‑Turvy World (Hatje Cantz 2008, winner of Deutscher Fotobuchpreis) featuring the absurd images of Frank Kunert. And after intensive research, he and his older sister decided to reveal the forgotten oeuvre of Fritz Kahn. With their monograph Fritz Kahn (Taschen 2013), they caused a sensation the world over, and the book was selected for the TED Book Club.
